El Espartano

Fairmont Hotel Rio de Janeiro

In partnership with the prestigious Brazilian architectural firm Anastassiadis Arquitetos, El Espartano produced the carpets for the new Fairmont Hotel Rio de Janeiro Copacabana, the celebrated chain’s first hotel in Latin America.

Founded more than a century ago, this historic Canadian hotel chain has properties in more than 20 countries around the globe, and the luxurious Hotel Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana is its first to open in South America. The project consisted of a complete refurbishment of the old Copacabana Hotel, formerly owned by Sofitel, which is also a member of the Accor Group. The hotel occupies an impressive three-story building in a privileged spot on Rio’s iconic Copacabana Beach, at the foot of the famous Sugar Loaf Mountain.

More than 7,000 m2 of Magna Axminster carpets were produced for this project, based on a series of designs by the well-known Brazilian architectural studio, Anastassiadis Arquitetos. El Espartano has had several other successes collaborating with the studio on other projects, such as the Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro and the Palacio Tangará, a luxury hotel situated in São Paulo.

The carpets took their inspiration from the glamorous Carioca style, aesthetics and materials, and feature tropically-inspired motifs mixed with natural, organic background colors. The carpets have been laid throughout the different common areas and corridors of the hotel, where they have received great admiration from all those passing through.

El Espartano’s Magna Axminster carpets are produced using modern looms and the most advanced technology to provide one of a kind flexibility in terms of color and texture combinations, while achieving a precision weaving of the yarns to create highly complex and defined designs. This production method also provides the carpets with a great amount of durability and resistance to fading, allowing them to preserve their original colors, look, and soft, plush texture for much longer. These characteristics make the Magna Axminster the ideal choice for high-traffic areas, and it is why they are one of the most widely used El Espartano products in hotel projects.
